In the year 2000, UCIMED, led by Dr. Misael Chinchilla Carmona and Dr. Idalia Valerio Campos with the support of Dr. Pablo Guzmán Stein and the members of the Administrative Board, gave themselves the task of establishing a basic research process as part of the indisputable seal of academic quality that characterizes us. Over time, more researchers and support staff were added, which led to the inauguration of the fifth floor of the Microbiology Tower, as an area for research, dedicating said Research Laboratory to Dr. Misael Chinchilla Carmona, on November 16, 2015.
As part of the growth of research at UCIMED, the Research Commission was created in 2014, made up of prominent members of the institution. By 2019, additional research areas were already stablished: clinical, educational and social, which arose when other units were created such as UNAC, CEC UCIMED, IICIMED, CEDAII and the Department of Social Responsibility.
There is currently a Research Regulation, approved in 2016, which establishes, among other things, the objectives, guidelines for project registration, lines of research, monitoring of registered projects and student participation.
