Gynecology-Obstetrics is a branch of medical sciences that is in charge of preventing, diagnosing, treating and recovering all the nosological entities that alter the health of women, from childhood to even old age, placing them at real or potential risk. It is the attention to women, their reproductive system, breasts, and their integral health in accordance with the proper management of biological development, its reproductive functions and alterations. Care and management of normal and high-risk pregnancy, the care of newborns and all of the after-effects of childbirth and other gynecological pathologies is also included.
Given the professional profile of this specialist, he can be incorporated into the comprehensive care of women in any of their phases of life, at any of the care levels of the Costa Rican Health System, both in direct care of the population, in their own communities, as part of a support team for the EBAIS, in the health areas and hospitals.
They can also work privately from clinics and hospitals in this health subsystem.
Any national or foreign doctor duly registered or authorized by the College of Physicians and Surgeons and who passes the I and II stage of the selection process.
Foreign doctors must comply with all the corresponding immigration procedures.
This process is divided into two stages. In the first, candidates take a written test on general medical knowledge. Those who pass it, go on to a second stage in which they are evaluated by means of a written test on basic knowledge of the specialty and assessment of their resume, which involves command of languages, publications and continuing medical education studies.
